We all are aware
of the role coconut plays in the execution of most of the Hindu rituals. The
breaking of coconuts is deemed auspicious before starting any new venture and a
dry coconut is an important of any post yagna prasad . I always thought the
rituals involved ingredients which were not only deemed important but were
easily available around us. However, Coconut,
which fails this assumption , is a tropical fruit growing in the sandy
beaches of coastal areas, apart from the crude sceneries we all drew in the
Arts class, where the coconuts were allowed to grow on hilly terrains , next to
huts , next to busy roads or practically any terrain. What baffles me is how
people in Northern Himalayan region
started using it in their rituals? Was it imported from lands hundreds of miles
away ? I believe that all the rituals
that we follow made sense at some point of time, now they are mere paradigms
one is too afraid to break free of… It might have made sense that the breaking
of Coconut wards away evil ; for every ritual has a scientific explanation to
it or had a social relevance given the socio -economic conditions when it was
coined…
I am looking for an answer of this one
question in particular as of now ..
